This Just In: 12/21/2012 Update...

It has been awhile since I did any looking around regarding our impending doom as is supposedly laid down in the Mayan calendar.  I have noticed an increase in the number of hits my previous posts about the dread day are getting, and the six month countdown is on the horizon.  Seemed like the time was ripe for an update.

• "Four long numbers on the north wall of the ruined house relate to the Maya calendar and computations about the moon, sun, and possibly Venus and Mars; the dates may stretch some 7,000 years into the future. These are the first calculations Maya archaeologists have found that seem to tabulate all of these cycles in this way. This just in...well, as of May of this year...new Mayan calendar information has been found in Guatemalan Mayan ruins.  An archaeology student from Boston University found the paintings in ruins of a home, and archaeology professor, William Saturno, found the wall entries during the excavation of the site.Certain people are saying that Doomsday is imminent in the next six months. That the Maya say so, and that makes it true.  No 'ifs', 'ands', or 'buts'.

Nothing is ever that cut and dry.  



This more recent news makes absolute sense to me. Maybe on it's face the Mayan calendar can be interpreted to say 'the end of times is coming', but I think what is laid down in the 'Eagle Bowl' is meant in more abstract terms.  If one looks hard enough, there is information out there that talks about the whole 12/21/2012 concept in abstract terms, too.  Think more 'end of an age', rather than 'end of the world'.

If the world were to end as the Dooms-dayists are saying, that would be letting the human race off too easy. The world is a mess right now.  Here in the US, things are in the proverbial "crapper".  To my mind, what happens in the next six months dictates how we enter the next 'age'.  That's on a collective level.  I think we can also dictate things on a more personal level, too.  We each have the personal power to use in laying the brick work of our own paths.  Life over all is many layered.  It is up to humans on an individual and a group level to create the steps we make in moving forward.  We can either move in a positive and enlightened way, or make the ride a lot rougher by allowing the negative to take deeper root.  

Will the new evidence change any of the panicky minds out there?  Maybe some.  At the very least, it offers some food for thought.

NASA & 2012...

The year 2012 is here.  December 21st is less than 300 days away.  People the world over have been lamenting the alleged ancient signs of imminent disaster.  So far the fanatics have been fairly quiet out there.  When I watch TV, I catch a mention of the dreaded date from time to time, but nothing major. Some of the cable networks have been running the mediocre film based on the now infamous date, which is to be expected.  I imagine there will be an increase over the next several months of shows on Discovery, The History Channel, etc., that cover the dread scenarios.  Nat Geo (a.k.a. The National Geographic Channel) has a new offering called "Doomsday Preppers".  It features people who have gone to the extreme in preparing for the disaster they are convinced is coming.  Bunkers and shelters; food and water; clothing that will protect against the predicted horrible conditions.  I read an article about the show where one of the producers was sharing his hopes for viewers.  He said that he hoped it would empower them to prepare themselves.  Having lived in California for about 18 years, I understand the need to be somewhat prepared.  I went through the North Ridge quake of the early '90's, so I know the importance of a working flashlight, etc.  I would imagine some will take away some helpful tips, but the trailers I have seen show people who have gone over the deep end.  Honestly, if they are predicting the world will go through the changes they are preparing for, their preparations will be for naught...I doubt anything will be able to live in that kind of environment.  It's kind of like putting a Band Aid on a decapitation.



This makes my third post regarding the 2012 grumblings.  (You can find my other posts in the 'Labels' section of the right hand column.  Just click on "Mayan".)  I've said it before, and I'll say it again...I'll find out what happens when everyone else does.  My prediction is that nothing will happen.  However, if any of the predictions do come true, I vote for the more 'crunchy granola' entry on the list.  A change in more of a spiritual/metaphysical sense. Definitely something I can jive with.

There are times when things have to get really bad, before they can get really good.  There are those who say that this is the case with the 2012 date.  Are things really bad right now?  Yeah.  They are.  Our economy is in the crapper. Unemployment is up.  Not only do the current presidential hopefuls look bleak, Washington DC is full of career politicians who are more concerned with themselves than 'we the people' who elected them.  If one were to sit down and really analyze the state of things over all, well it is insane making.  Some say that we are going through such taxing times because there is going to be a shift happening at years end.  In a previous post, I shared an online video regarding "Ophiuchus, The 13th Cycle" because I thought that in the midst of all the doom and gloom talk out there, the theory outlined on the video was a bit more compelling.  Here is a link to that post.

My main reason for posting again about 2012...well, it was bound to happen anyway, but the main reason for this particular post is the following video.  One of the primary Doomsday predictions is the one surrounding a certain planet. A planet that belongs to another solar system, and travels its orbital path right through our solar system.  There are a few popular names for said planet: Planet X, Nemesis, Nibiru.  Many say that it truly exists, and NASA has been keeping the truth from the public.  Why cause a panic, right?  NASA employee, Don Yeomans, of the "Near-Earth Object Program" has decided to clear some things up.  Check it out...

He makes some good points.  Especially the one about Nibiru being kept secret.  How could such a planet exist and not be a huge topic on the news? NASA certainly doesn't employ the only astronomers on the planet.  Whether astronomers are professionals or hobbyists, if a planet were heading towards us, the news would be out on a much bigger scale.  
Yes, Mr. Yeomans is a man of science, and of course his views are based there.  Science can explain some things, but not others.  Nibiru and solar storm activity...I think science can safely explain those.  But what about the intangible?  Those things that can easily fall into the realm of the metaphysical?  Some things defy explanation, but just...are.  That's what I find intriguing.
I don't really expect anything to happen on December 21st.  I suspect it will be a cool winter day, and many of the carbon based life forms on the Earth's surface will be scrambling around trying to get their Christmas shopping done. If planets do align and something heavy happens on a spiritual front, I will relish every moment.  If something horrible and catastrophic happens, I'll...well, I won't relish every moment of that...I'm just going to shift into 'wait and see' mode for now.

2012 Musings...

As funny as this comic panel is, it does pretty much sum things up for a lot of people.  An ancient civilization has created a round stone calendar that many people are giving a whole lot of attention.  A number of those people are jumping on the 2012 band wagon of 'death and destruction' because there are others who are generating the seeds of mass hysteria.  Are the majority of the potentially 'hysterical' true believers?  Do they believe that the Maya are right, and have they researched things to the point of being able to safely say that every event laid down in the calendar so far has came to pass?  I would have to say, no.  I did a bit of reading about the calendar for another post I wrote about 2012 (you can find it in the "Theory" section of my blog), and I can safely say that there is a lot out there that has been written about the Mayan calendar and all of the prophecies said to lie in it's wheel.  It can get rather mind numbing when each account has specific points to make, and count 'this' as fact and count 'that' as false interpretation, when the finer points all seem to be interpretation based.  The messages laid out in the calendar, the "ages" or developmental levels to human life and it's existence on this planet we call Earth...once I started doing some surface research and read various accounts by different people...well, everything seems to be open to the realm of individual interpretation, everyone (whether part of a small or large group of like minded individuals) has their own thoughts about what the calendar means.  I think the level of belief and accompanying states of worry that seem to follow the prominent views out there on what the calendar is telling us, is proportionate to the widely believed predictions to what we can expect to happen on the fateful day of 12/21/2012.  It's like a global telephone game that is getting extra fuel through television, film, and the internet.  The fact that we as a society are going through an extremely 'crappy' period what with our government showing how useless it is, and our economy being in the crapper...it's just not a time that is conducive to over all happiness.  Doom and gloom is an easier sell when things are like this.

Am I saying that I don't think the calendar has any actual significance?  No, I am not.  I am saying to those individuals who are freaking out about 2012 to do some looking around for themselves.  It might shed a bit more light on what may or may not happen next year.  Do I think the Earth is going to expereince total destruction and the end of mankind will result?  No.  Whatever mankind does or whatever happens to us, the Earth is still going to be here revolving away.  Whether it's something off of an ancient civilizations calendar, or man made global warming, old Gaia is going to keep on keepin' on long after we have gone.

I am going to share some of the info from one of the sites I visited.  It relates to the "Seven Ages of Man" as supposedly laid out in the Mayan Calendar:

The Mayan circle calendar is a huge monolith that is called the "Cuauhxicalli Eagle Bowl".  It represents the solar deity Tonatiuh.

The Zapotic Prophecy (which I couldn't track down a definition of) is based on the 'Eagle Bowl'.  "After 13 Heavens of Decreasing Choice, and 9 Hells of Increasing Doom", the Tree of Life shall blossom with a fruit never before known in creation, and that fruit shall be the New Spirit of Men."

So, as stated above, there are to be 13 Heavens and 9 Hells.  Each lasts 52 years.  According to the calendar as stated by this site, we are into the Hells right now.  Each hell is to be worse than the last.  The final day of the 4th hell was August 17, 1987.  As all who are aware of the end date of the calendar knows, it is said to be December 21, 2012.  (Although, the site did say that there is some debate as the last day is said to be between the 21st and 23rd of December).  When the end day of the calendar comes, only a few will survive in the catastrophes that will happen.  So at the end of this 5th stage, the remaining humanity will realize their spiritual destiny.  That should be it according to many of the people who believe, right?  Well, not according to this site.  You see there are other predictions supposedly made in the calendar that happen beyond the end of the calendar.  There is a 6th and 7th age or stage slated to happen.  Apparently, the 6th age is when 'we will realize the God within ourselves'.  The 7th (and last) states that we 'will become so spiritual that we will be telepathic'.

So...where does that put us then?  Okay, we are (according to this site) well into the 5th age, which is going to end in December of 2012.  The 4th Hell ended in 1987, so that should place us in the 5th now.  We've got two ages left, and once this 5th Hell ends next year there will be 4 Hells left.  So does the Hell continue?  If mankind is supposed to go through some sort of prophesied cleansing to weed out the non-spiritual, so those with a "spiritual destiny" can move forward, does that mean that these selected few are going to continue going through Hell?  The site said that the Hells last 52 years each, so that means that we are currently only on year 24 of the 5th Hell, and we have 28 years to go.  How does that work?

Confused?  It can get insane making trying to read up on 2012, and the Mayan calendar.  Every place you go has a difference of opinion, and they all think they are right.  Even when they contradict themselves.  Within all of the information that continued getting blurred and running together in a huge pile of ARGH, there was one site that made some sense.

When December 21, 2012 comes, the world won't come to an end.  It's going to be a time of transition.  We as the human race are going through some tough times.  Here in the US things are a mess. There is so much chaos. However, we have a choice.  We can move forward with resistance, or acceptance. That is what will gauge how we proceed.  It will determine whether we transition through cataclysmic changes, or through gradual peace and tranquility.  I can jive with that.  That makes perfect sense to me.

The 2012 prophecy.  Ophiucus.  Nibiru.  There is a 'Dooms Day' scenario for everyone who wants to believe in them.  I said it before, and I'll say it again...do I believe in all of these supposed prophecies?  Not really.  However, I do know one thing for sure.  I will find out what's going to happen when everyone else does.

12/21/2012...Is It To Be, Or Not To Be...

The Mayan calendar, conspiracy theorists, hobbyist astronomers, Nostradamus devotees...what's going to happen in 2012? More specifically, what is going to happen on 12/21/2012? Personally, I figure that I'll find out when everyone else does.

What do I think will probably happen? I don't believe that the Earth is going to get slammed into by the planet X/or Nibiru as the ancient Sumerian's supposedly called it. If I'm wrong? Needless to say, that would really suck.

The existence of Nibiru is said to have been known about as far back as 6000 years ago. The belief is that some aliens the Sumerians called The Anunnaki's came to Earth and through DNA mixing created the first male humanoid (sounds like "missing link theory" to me). The ancient Sumerians are said to have had knowledge about the existence of the planets and a clear understanding of the placement of them within our solar system (along with the proper size of each planet), which was well beyond the Sumerians capabilities at that time which is said to prove the alien visitors. Enter Nibiru. It is a planet whose orbit is said to pass through our solar system, and it takes 3630 years to complete it's orbit. Now, there is quite a lot about Nibiru on the World Wide Web, and although pretty intriguing in a sci-fi novel sort of way...well, I can see how the prospect of something like this could truly freak a lot of people out. Before I continue, I just want to say that I'm delivering a 'Reader's Digest' version of the various accounts I have read. This is kind of an amalgamation of the theories, and I purposefully left out the extraneous.

Is Nibiru coming at us? A lot of people believe so. Some believe that Nibiru is going to hit the Earth. Some believe that thousands of years ago, Nibiru hit a larger planet that predates the existence of Earth (the name of said planet is escaping me at the moment). It predated Earth because Earth is believed to have been created out of half of the older planet. When Nibiru initially hit it, the older planet cracked in half. Through repeated blows over thousands of years, the Earth and the asteroid belt were created.

The larger consensus seems to be that on the Winter Solstice of 12/21/2012, Nibiru will pass right next to the Earth. It will be so close we will be able to see it clearly. This will supposedly cause our poles to shift, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. Total planetary devastation.

The ancient Sumerians knew about the existence of Nibiru. The Mayan calendar ends on the date in question. Nostradamus has written quite a bit on predictions that are said to describe a comet planet hitting or passing next to the Earth. What does it all mean? Is a lot being read into the tablets, calendar, and predictions? As I've said before and I will say again, I am one who doesn't believe or disbelieve something until it's proven to me one way or another...but this? There are a lot of people in this world that thrive on conspiracy theories. Many of them want to scare the crap out of people because they have the potential to make a few bucks. Maybe they have written a book, or are giving a seminar at The Learning Annex? Maybe they just get a charge out of it? Okay...and maybe, just maybe they believe it? Honestly, if something that catastrophic were going to happen, don't you think there would be more noise being made about it by the powers that be?

Then there is the introduction of Ophiuchus into the mix. Although this 'Secret Sign' wasn't thrust into the realm of mainstream news until the recent story about peoples Zodiacal symbols changing (which they didn't), Ophiuchus has been around for a long time. I must say that this slant on the predictions about 2012 intrigues me. In some ways it makes more sense. The alignment with the Milky Way. The magnetic poles switching places (the Earth is apparently over due). A great "transition". That's how it's referred to in the video below. "Ophiuchus, The 13th Cycle". It features several viewpoints on what will happen. Environmentally, physically, spiritually. I scarcely know how to discern the wheat from the chaff, but this approach to 12/21/2012 is fascinating to me.

I found this second video on Ophiuchus while video surfing. It's not an informative video so much as it's a creative piece about the sign. It's kind of a short art film, with a Lynch-eon edge.

There is also talk of another solar event in 2012. Red super-giant, Betelgeuse, is losing mass which is a sign of gravitational collapse. It's basically running out of fuel. Fuel which helps make it the ninth brightest star in the sky. When the fuel runs out, the star will quickly collapse in on itself. The resulting explosion will be tens of millions times brighter than our sun, giving us 24 hours of light here on Earth. It'll stay pretty bright for a couple of weeks or so, and then over time it will slowly fade until we hardly notice it at all.

Believers in 2012 as the coming Apocalypse (the Mayan calendar predicts Armageddon) will most likely believe it to be the work of the devil, as the name Betelgeuse has strong association with Satan. Betelgeuse going Super Nova will signal the Apocalypse to some, and to others (my camp) it'll just be another cool event to witness within their lifetime. If it does happen in 2012, that is. There is a possibility it won't happen for another million years.

So...believe? Disbelieve? On the fence? I have my thoughts on the matter. I can see the planet going through a transitional period, and I doubt it will happen overnight. I think it could all even be for the positive. But like I said...for the most part, I'll find out when everybody else does.

Ophiuchus, The 13th Sign & 2012...

I know many have their ideas, theories, and even certainties of what will happen in 2012 in relation to the Mayan Calendar. If you ask me, none of us will know what's going to happen until the time comes. We'll all find out together. However, I will say that I doubt we'll all be wiped out of existence, and that the planet will burn up. Yes, an alignment is going to happen that hasn't happened for a long time. I just don't happen to believe that the horrible doom and gloom being promised by some individuals is what will actually happen. Anyway, I found this video posted on one of the sites I regularly visit, and I found it quite interesting. Thought others might find it interesting, too.
